Women’s Soccer Heads to UW-La Crosse Wednesday

The Gustavus women’s soccer team will head to UW-La Crosse Wednesday night to take on the Eagles for a 6 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest 2-8 overall while the Eagles are 7-4-1.

The Series: Wednesday’s contest marks the 13th all-time meeting between the two teams with the Eagles currently leading the series 6-4-2. The two teams met last season in Saint Peter on Oct. 3 when UW-La Crosse took a 5-2 victory.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus is most recently coming off a 2-1 loss to St. Olaf Saturday. Through 10 contests Katie Ashpole (Jr., Chaska) leads the team with four goals and an assist for nine points, while Abby Mullenbach (Sr., Lakeville) has two goals and an assist for five. Ashley Becker (Sr., Farmington) has started every game in net, making a MIAC-leading 59 saves and allowing 20 goals for a save percentage of .747.

Scouting the Eagles: UW-La Crosse is most recently coming off a 2-0 win in their WIAC opener over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday. Through 12 games, the duo of Sophie Amundson and Kaitlyn Villars have scored two-thirds of the Eagles goals with seven each. Amundson has added four assists for 18 points, while Villars has one for 15 total points. Quinn Shannon has played the most in net for La Crosse posting a 5-3-1 record and making 42 saves while allowing seven goals for a save percentage of .857.
