SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team is set to host St. Olaf Wednesday in a 4 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest 8-2 overall with a 2-1 mark in conference play while the Oles are 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC.
The Series: Saturday’s contests marks the 55th all-time meeting between the two teams with Gustavus holding a 23-19-12 advantage. The two teams met on Sept. 25, 2018 in Saint Peter with the Gusties escaping with a 1-0 victory. The two teams played scoreless for 87 minutes before Luke Laurich (Sr., Batavia, Ill.) knocked in what proved to be the game-winner.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus comes into the contest most recently defeating Buena Vista 3-0 Monday night. Cole Schwartz (So., Jakarta, Indonesia) leads the attack with 28 points thanks to 12 goals and four assists while Raphael Cattelin (Fy., Edina) and Matt Gibbons (Jr., Minneapolis) have recorded 23 and 20 points, respectively. Wesley Sanders (Fy., Urbandale, Iowa) has played every minute in net for the Black and Gold, notching 33 saves while allowing eight goals, for a save percentage of .805.
Scouting the Oles: St. Olaf comes into the contest most recently following a 4-1 win over Saint Mary’s Tuesday, Oct. 1. The Oles are led up front by the duo of Lucas Gaulmin (2g, 7a) and Farid Sani (5g, 1a) with 11 points each through 10 games. Keith Loukas and Max Eisenfeld have been effective in their chances, each notching two goals on just five total shots. Hamza Osman has started all 10 games in net, allowing 18 goals while making 34 saves for a save percentage of .654.
