Men’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Contest to Augsburg

The Gustavus men’s soccer team traveled to Augsburg Tuesday and fell 1-0. With the loss the Gusties fall to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC while the Auggies move to 5-4-1 overall and 1-3 in conference.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team traveled to Augsburg Tuesday and fell 1-0. With the loss the Gusties fall to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC while the Auggies move to 5-4-1 overall and 1-3 in conference.

The two teams played fairly even the first half with Augsburg seeming to have the edge in chances and they took advantage of one at the 20-minute mark when the Auggies were fouled in the box and connected on the penalty kick to go up 1-0. The two team’s then played scoreless the rest of the first half with the Gusties holding the shot advantage 6-4 in the frame.

In the second half the Gusties were in control of possession a majority of the half but couldn’t find the back of the net. Gustavus outshot Augsburg 12-7 in the second half and had a ton of good chances late but couldn’t connect as the Auggies escaped with the win.

Wesley Sanders (Fy., Urbandale, Iowa) got the loss in net, allowing one goal and making seven saves.

The Gusties will next be in action on Saturday when they host St. Olaf at 1:00 p.m.
