Update: Women’s Soccer vs. UM-Morris Postponed

The Gustavus women’s soccer home game vs. Minnesota-Morris scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday is postponed to Sunday, Oct. 20 with a 1 or 2 p.m. start time. The game is postponed due to flooding at Gustavus’s soccer fields.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer home game vs. Minnesota-Morris scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday is postponed to Sunday, Oct. 20 with a 1 or 2 p.m. start time. The game is postponed due to flooding at Gustavus’s soccer fields.

The Series: Thursday’s game marks the third all-time meeting between Gustavus and UM-Morris in women’s soccer with the Gusties holding a 2-0 lead in the series. The two teams most recently met on Sept. 1, 2009 in Morris with the Gusties winning 5-0. Gustavus outshot the Cougars 35-4 as Meghan McMillan (two goals) and Rachel Iblings (goal, two assists) led the offense.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus most recently lost 2-1 to Luther on Saturday in its home opener. The Gusties led 1-0 in the first half after a goal by Katie Ashpole (Jr., Chaska), but the Norse answered with two scores late in the game for the win. Ashpole leads the offense after three games with three points on one goal and one assist. Ashley Becker (Sr., Farmington) has played all 270 minutes in goal with a 2.00 goals against average and an .800 save percentage. Becker enters Thursday’s game with 307 career saves and is two shy of setting a program record, currently held by Tara Joosten, which was set in 1997.

Scouting the Cougars: UM-Morris was last in action Sept. 6 at Evergreen State in Olympia, Wash. and lost 6-1. Monica Calderon has scored the lone goal of the season for the Cougars, assisted by Sam Tate. After two games, the Cougars have been outshot 39-3 by their opponents. Bernadette Cienik and Megan Tschida have spent equal time in net with Cienik averaging 6.59 goals allowed per game and Tschida giving up an average of 2.65 goals per game.
