ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team concluded their regular season on Saturday with a convincing 5-0 win over Saint Ben’s. With the victory the Gusties move to 15-5-5 overall and 11-3-4 in the MIAC.
Gustavus picked up right where they left off last night in the first period, when Kristina Press (Fy., Cottage Grove, Minn.) was able to put Gustavus on the board, with assists going to Allie Stanger (Sr., Paynesville, Minn.) and Lilia Scheid (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.) at the 13:00 mark. Just over two minutes later, at 15:01, Taylor Nelson (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) scored her second goal in as many contests off assists from Erin Moes (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) and Paulina Scheid (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.).
The game went scoreless for over 25 minutes, before Stephanie Anderson (Fy., Blaine, Minn.) put the Gusties up 3-0 3:43 into the third period with an assist going to Laine Fischer (Sr., Northfield, Minn.). The Black and Gold kept adding on as Jordyn Peterson (Fy., Brookings, S.D.) found Amelia Vosen (Jr., Nowthen, Minn.) for the junior captains 11th goal of the year at the 13:02 mark to go up 4-0 and then at 16:29 Moes notched her first goal of the year with assists going to Grace Schulte (Fy., Little Falls, Minn.) and Press.
Amanda DiNella (Sr., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) started the contest in net for Gustavus and made 12 saves in two periods. She was relieved by Paige Press (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) in period three and she saved both shots sent her way in the period. The Gusties outshot the Bennies 58-14 in the contest.
The Gusties will now enter the MIAC playoffs as the No. 4 seed and they will host Saint Mary’s on Thursday at 7 p.m.
