SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team took on St. Catherine on Friday night and took home a 2-0 victory. With the win the Gusties improve to 11-5-4 overall and 7-3-3 in the MIAC while the Wildcats fall to 5-13-2 overall and 2-9-2 in the league.

The first period was fairly stagnant as neither team really got a lot going. The Wildcats outshot Gustavus 7-4 including one off the pipe but neither team could muster a goal.

In the second period Gustavus dominated from the start controlling the puck for a majority of the period. They looked as if they had a goal on a deflection that went up and over the head of the Wildcat goalie but it hit the crossbar deflected down and bounced away from the net. The Gusties got a goal late though when they were on the power play as Hanna Mutschelknaus (Jr., Brandon, S.D.) found Madigan Goldsworthy (Fy., Chaska, Minn.) who took a shot that went over the head of the St. Kate’s goalie and into the back of the net for a goal.

In the second period the Gusties outshot the Wildcats by a margin of 14-3.

The Gusties got the scoring started again early in the third period when Jordyn Peterson (Fy., Brookings, S.D.) took a shot that bounced off the Wildcat goaltender and into the net for a goal at the 1:19 mark. Jamie Byrne (Fy., Delano, Minn.) and Laine Fischer (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) were credited with assists on the play.

The game went scoreless for the rest of the contest as the Gusties took home a 2-0 victory.

Amanda DiNella (Sr., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) got the start in net and made 11 saves for her 10th victory of the season.

The two teams will be back in action tomorrow for a 5 p.m. contest at Drake Arena in St. Paul.
