SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team will host Hamline on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest 8-11 overall and 5-9 in the MIAC while the Piper enter 9-10 overall and 6-8 in the league.
The Series
Tonight’s contest will mark the 182nd all-time meeting between the two teams with Gustavus leading the series 107-74. Hamline has won the past two contests though defeating the Gusties last on Nov. 28, 2018 by a score of 79-62.
Scouting the Gusties
In their most recent contest Gustavus traveled to Saint Mary’s on Saturday and fell by a score of 79-64. Spencer Tollefson notched his second consecutive 15 point performance in the contest and Brandon Snoberger added a season high 12 points. The Gusties have won their past three home contests and over that span have averaged 79.7 points and allowed just 73.0. Riley Sharbono leads the team offensively this season averaging 13.1 points per contest on 45.3 percent shooting while Nolan Malo leads the team inside averaging 9.7 points to go along with 4.8 rebounds.
Scouting the Pipers
Hamline comes into the contest currently tied for 6th in the MIAC playoff race with Concordia. They have dropped four of their past five MIAC contests and are looking to turn that around Thursday night. On the season the Pipers have four players averaging double figures with Isaac Brooks leading the way with 15.2 points per contest. Connor Knutson, Ethan Scheuring, and Jake Larson also average double figures for Hamline with Larson putting up double figures in the last four contests including 22 in the teams most recent win on Jan. 23 against Macalester.
