SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team will head to St. Joseph on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest versus Saint Benedict. The Gusties are coming off a victory against St. Mary’s on Tuesday and now hold a record of 5-7-1 overall with a 2-4-1 mark in the MIAC. The Blazers are 4-6-1 overall with a 3-3-1 conference record.
The Series: The Gusties and Blazers will meet on Saturday for the 37th time with the Gusties holding a 17-15-4 advantage. The teams last met on Oct. 14, 2017 when the teams played to a 0-0 tie.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus has been led offensively this season by the trio of Abby Mullenbach (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.), Emily Skogseth (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.), and Chase Miller (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.). Mullenbach and Skogseth have each tallied 12 points this season to pace the Gusties, while Miller has accumulated eight points. Mullenbach leads the Gusties in the goals with five while Skogseth leads the team in assists with four. In net this season, Abby Goodno (Fy., Little Canada, Minn.) has started 10 games and posts a 4-5-1 record while recording 72 saves and allowing 15 goals.
Scouting the Blazers: The Blazers are coming off a 4-1 loss to St. Catherine on Wednesday and look to bounce back versus the Gusties. The Blazers have four players who have scored multiple goals on the season with Megan Thompson leading the way with four. Kendall Koenen has started 10 games in net for Saint Benedict this year with a record of 4-5-1. Koenen has tallied 63 saves on the season while allowing 18 goals.
