BECKER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team competed in the first day of the MIAC Championships in Becker, Minn. and finished the day in fourth place. The Gusties shot a 331 as a team and trail the leader, Carleton, by 28 strokes.

The Gusties were led by Ellie Brandt (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) who had a very successful round, shooting a 77 which put her in fourth place overall. Erin Ericson (Fy., Onalaska, Minn.) and Sydney Regalado (Fy., Rosemount, Minn.) also had solid rounds for the Gusties finishing tied for 14th overall with scores of 84.

On today’s round, head coach Scott Moe said, “Ellie did a really great job coming out of the gates in very difficult scoring conditions and posting a 77. To be in the position we want to be in after tomorrow’s round, we need to clean up on a few areas around the green. We had way too many holes today where we didn’t walk away with just bogey and ended up walking away with double or more which was a problem. If we can eliminate those, we will be in great shape.”

The Gusties will continue play over the course of the next two days.
