REDLANDS, Calif. – The Gustie women’s soccer team competed in California once again on Saturday but this time against Chapman University. The Gusties couldn’t find the spark offensively and were shutout and lost by a score of 1-0.
“This trip to California has been great for our team,” coach Laura Burnett-Kurie said. “We played two tough teams and came out with one result in our favor and one not. Tonight’s result doesn’t dictate the talent we have on this team.”
The Gusties just couldn’t muster any offense as they were shut down by the Chapman defense. They were outshot in the contest 9-4 with four different Gusties recording shots. Leah Pavlish (Fy., Prior Lake, Minn.) made the start in the net for Gusties and made an impressive eight saves on the night but ended with the loss.
Gustavus will head back to Minnesota on Sunday and will next be in action on September 8th in St. Peter with a 1 p.m. versus Nebraska Wesleyan in the Team Trina Charity Game.
“We have a long season in front of us and are looking forward to getting back to our roots and style of play,” said Burnett-Kurie. “We are focused on enjoying our last day in California tomorrow and getting back to work next week.”
