SAINT PETER, Minn. – The 2018 season marks a major milestone for the Gustavus volleyball program as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. The Gusties will recognize the 50th season with an alumnae celebration Saturday, Sept. 22 on the Gustavus campus. Activities will begin in the morning leading up to the Gusties’ match versus MIAC foe Bethel University at 2:30 p.m. Below is the tentative schedule.
10 a.m. – “Rusty Gustie” volleyball scrimmage (alums vs. alums)
12:30 p.m. – Luncheon on campus
1:30 p.m. – Campus tour and “paint the rock”
2:30 p.m. – Gustavus vs. Bethel at Gus Young Court
6 p.m. – Post-match dinner with the team on campus
8 p.m. – Reception with coaching staff at local establishment in Saint Peter

Through 49 seasons, Gustavus has an all-time record of 914-646-11 and is 208-163 in the MIAC with five conference championships. The Gustie volleyball program has been directed by five head coaches – Gretchen Koehler started the program in 1969 and coached through the 1996 season. Gayle Hanson (1977) and Stacy Godwin (1990) each had one-year stints leading the Gusties. Kari Eckheart coached for 13 years (1997-2009) and current head coach Rachelle Sherden has been at the helm since 2010. There have been nine All-Americans and three MIAC Players of the Year in program history.
