[UPDATE: THURSDAY, 2:51 p.m.] – Due to the Saint John’s field not being ready for Friday games, the MIAC has made the following adjustments to the schedule:
– Games are all shifted back by one day.
– Gustavus will host Carleton at 1 p.m. Sunday in St. Peter.
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Everything you thought you knew about the Gustavus baseball schedule, throw it out the window. The athletic directors of MIAC institutions Wednesday approved a new baseball schedule with hopes the entire 20-game conference schedule will be completed for each team prior to league playoffs, which begin Thursday, May 10.
MIAC teams will compete in “pods” this weekend, with Concordia hosting Augsburg, St. Olaf, and St. Thomas over three days in Moorhead and Saint John’s hosting Bethel, Carleton, Gustavus, Hamline, Macalester, and Saint Mary’s in Collegeville. If an additional field becomes available on Thursday, the Conference will break the two pods into three. The Gustie Baseball Field could potentially be used for a third pod this weekend. All remaining rounds have been redrawn and teams will resume regular play on Wednesday, April 25, with the regular season running through Monday, May 7. Each doubleheader for the remainder of the season will also feature two seven-inning games instead of seven and nine.
The 2018 MIAC Baseball Playoffs will be expanded to feature six teams, with two play-in games on Thursday, May 10 that will feed into a four-team, double-elimination format on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The playoffs will reseed if needed following the play-in games.
