Women’s Golf Takes Fifth At Illinois Wesleyan Invite, Swenson Second Individually

The Gustavus women’s golf team finished fifth out of 18 teams Sunday at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University, posting a two-round total of 320-327-647.

NORMAL, Ill. – The Gustavus women’s golf team finished fifth out of 18 teams Sunday at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University, posting a two-round total of 320-327-647.

McKenzie Swenson (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) took second place individually after a second round score of plus-three 75, which was the lowest score of the day. Swenson pared 13 holes and birdied one on Sunday after carding a first round score of 78, finishing with a total of 153. Morgan Bleyhl (So., Elk River, Minn.) tied for 21st with a score of 82-80-162. Kristen Cash (So., Roseville, Minn.) tied for 28th with an 80-85-165, Jessica Nelson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) tied for 40th at 83-87-170, and Ellie Brandt (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) did not complete Sunday after posting an 80 yesterday in the first round.

Host Illinois Wesleyan won the event with a 309-320-629. DePauw University took second at 318-321-639 and Huntingdon College placed third at 314-325-639. Rylie Loux of Illinois Wesleyan took home medalist honors with a score of 73-79-152.

Gustavus is scheduled to compete in the Bethel Royal Match on April 21-22, but that will likely not happen due to the recent snowfall in Minnesota. The spring season concludes at the Carleton Invitational on April 28-29.
