TUCSON, Ariz. – The Gustavus softball team lost a pair of games Saturday at the Tucson Invitaional, dropping to 3-7 overall. The Gusties lost 10-2 to Valley City State and then dropped a 5-2 decision to Bellevue.

Valley City State scored three runs in the first inning, which proved to be enough to capture the win. Gustavus scored solo runs in the third and fourth innings. Emily Webb (Jr., Maple Lake, Minn.) hit an RBI single in the third and then Emily Carlson (So., Burnsville, Minn.) scored on a bunt in the fourth.
Webb led the Gusties at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Ashley Neuenfeldt (Fy., Bloomington, Minn.) took the loss in the circle, allowing two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and zero walks.
The Gusties held an early 1-0 lead after three innings, but Bellevue responded with two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth, and another two in the seventh to hold on for the win.
Jess Neuman (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) hit an RBI single in the second frame, and Carlson hit a solo home run in the fourth for the two Gustie runs.
Sidney Welp (So., St. Peter, Minn.) led the team at the plate, going 3-for-4. Aly Freeman (So., Omaha, Neb.) took the loss in relief. She allowed one earned run on one hit in two innings of work.
The Gusties face UW-La Crosse in a double-header Sunday.
