Softball Celebrates 50th Season This Year

The Gustavus softball team has reached a special milestone this year as the program celebrates its 50th season at the College. Gustavus softball started in 1969 under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Gretchen Koehler and has evolved into a perpetual contender in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus softball team has reached a special milestone this year as the program celebrates its 50th season at the College. Gustavus softball started in 1969 under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Gretchen Koehler and has evolved into a perpetual contender in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Gusties will honor their 50th season with a celebration on Sunday, April 15 as they host Macalester at 1 p.m. Alumni, family, and friends are invited to campus for a gathering prior to the 1 p.m. doubleheader. More details about the celebration will be released in the weeks leading up to the event.

Gustavus has captured three MIAC championships (1990, 2003, 2009) and one conference playoff title (2015) since joining the league in 1982. The Gusties have appeared in the NCAA Championships four times with their best finish in 2009 when they took third place. After 49 seasons, the Gusties have an all-time record of 835-521-4 and a MIAC mark of 514-223-3. The 2018 season begins Saturday with afternoon games against Coe and UW-La Crosse at the Rochester Regional Stadium and Bubble.
