ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s basketball team is set to host its fourth straight home game Saturday, taking on Hamline University at 3 p.m. The No. 12-ranked Gusties enter the game 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC, while the Pipers are 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.

The Series: Saturday’s game marks the 73rd meeting between Gustavus and Hamline in women’s basketball with the Gusties holding a 62-10 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams last met on Feb. 4 as the Gusties claimed a decisive 106-63 victory for Head Coach Laurie Kelly’s 300th career win as a collegiate coach. Miranda Rice scored 25 points to lead all scorers, while Mikayla Miller posted 18 and Hannah Howard 10. The Gusties shot 52.2 percent from the floor and made 29-of-34 free throws.
Scouting Hamline: The Pipers dropped their first MIAC game of the season 76-56 to St. Thomas last Saturday, but rebounded with a 60-55 win over St. Olaf on Wednesday. Four Pipers reached double figures led by Morgen Coleman’s 15 points. After six games this season, Reilly Geistfeld leads the team with 10.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Geistfeld is a 36.4 percent shooter and has nine steals. Alaina Quaranta and Kaeli Stayer are next in scoring with 8.7 and 8.3 points per game, respectively.
Point Milestones: Miranda Rice currently has 997 career points, needing just three to become the 12th Gustavus women’s basketball player to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Mikayla Miller, who joined the 1K club last season, sits at 1,394 career points and needs six points to surpass Linn Erickson (1983-87) for fourth place in program history. Seventeen points by Miller would surpass Molly Geske (2008-12) for third place. Bri Monahan (2003-07) is second on the list with 1,466 points, while Jess Vadnais (2004-08) is the program record holder with 1,779 career points.
