ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team concludes the regular season Saturday at the Gustie Soccer Field, hosting Macalester at 3:30 p.m. for its Senior Day. The Gusties enter the match 9-4-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the MIAC, while the Scots are 6-6-4 overall and 3-4-3 in the league. Gustavus has secured a playoff berth and is jockeying for seeding. The Gusties could finish as high as No. 2 (Gustavus win + St. Olaf loss + St. Thomas loss + Saint Ben’s loss or tie), which would give them a first round bye, and they could finish as low as No. 6 (Gustavus loss + St. Kate’s win).
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus secured its third-straight postseason berth Wednesday with a thrilling 1-0 double overtime victory at Hamline. Chase Miller’s (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) team-leading fourth goal of the season with 29 seconds left in the game ended the nearly 110-minute match. Sophie Leininger (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) was credited with the assist, her team-high fifth of the season. After 16 games this season, Miller leads the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Leininger has nine points on two goals and five helpers. Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) has started all 16 games in goal with a 0.66 goals against average and .874 save percentage.

Scouting the Scots: Macalester most recently played to a scoreless double overtime draw Wednesday against Saint Benedict and is 1-2-2 in its last five games. After 16 games this season, Jamie Hasama leads the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Clara Webby is second with eight points on three goals and two assists. Rachel Wilson-King has started 12 games in goal with a 0.50 goals against average and .915 save percentage.

Senior Day: As is tradition at Gustavus, the final home game of the regular season is designated as Senior Day and a special tribute is made to the individuals who have dedicated themselves to Gustavus women’s soccer the past four years. This year, the athletic department, coach Laura Burnett-Kurie and her staff, parents and fans salute the five seniors who have represented the Gustavus women’s soccer program with pride throughout their collegiate careers. This year’s seniors include Emily Hilk (Waconia, Minn.), Sophie Leininger, Josie Mazzone (Rapid City, S.D.), Emily Odermatt (Minneapolis, Minn.), and Hannah Sturtz (Plymouth, Minn.).
