Decker Named MIAC Football Special Teams Player Of The Week

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its football Athlete of the Week awards this afternoon, with Gustavus linebacker and punter Casey Decker (Sr., Mapleton, Minn.) earning the Special Teams Player of the Week honor.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its football Athlete of the Week awards this afternoon, with Gustavus linebacker and punter Casey Decker (Sr., Mapleton, Minn.) earning the Special Teams Player of the Week honor.   

The Gustie punter and co-captain booted six punts for a career-high total of 257 yards, averaging 42.8 yards per kick in Saturday’s 24-3 loss to Bethel. Decker, who added five tackles on defense, also belted a season-long 57-yard punt in the game.

This week’s honor stands as Decker’s second of the season as he received Defensive Player of the Week accolade after the season opener.

Next up, the Gustavus football team heads to Collegeville on Saturday to take on the Johnnies of Saint John’s University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Clemens Stadium.
