Men’s Tennis Competes At Drake Invite

The Gustavus men’s tennis team took part in the Drake Invitational over the weekend, taking part in several singles and doubles brackets. 

DES MOINES, Iowa. – The Gustavus men’s tennis team took part in the Drake Invitational over the weekend, taking part in several singles and doubles brackets.

RESULTS

Mohanad Alhouni (Sr., Tripoli, Libya), and Mason Bultje (Sr., Mankato, Minn.) led the way in the singles draws, each advancing to the semifinals in their respective flights.

Alhouni defeated Josef Altman of Northwest Missouri State University 6-3, 6-1 and Jarod Hing of Tulsa University 6-3, 6-2 prior to falling 2-6, 1-6 against Nathan Reekie of Nebraska-Omaha.

Bultje defeated Hunter Terrel of the University of North Dakota 7-6, 6-3 and Pedro Portes of NWMSU before losing versus Marko Minic of Nebraska-Omaha.

Zach Ekstein (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) and Yassine Derbani (So., Casablanca, Morocco) led Gustavus in the doubles draws, reaching the semifinals. The duo defeated Hing/Pritchard of Tulsa 6-4 and Pudlo/Ford of Coe College, while falling 4-6 against Woodward/Outtara of Nebraska-Omaha.

The Gusties return to Swanson Tennis Center next weekend to host the 2017 ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
