Bateman Named MIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete Of The Week

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its men’s soccer Athlete of the Week award this afternoon, with Gustavus goalkeeper Matt Bateman (Jr., Savage, Minn.) receiving the honor after posting two shutouts over the weekend.   

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its men’s soccer Athlete of the Week award this afternoon, with Gustavus goalkeeper Matt Bateman (Jr., Savage, Minn.) receiving the honor after posting two shutouts over the weekend.  

The Gusties opened the 2017 campaign with a 1-0 shutout at the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday afternoon, with Bateman picking up two saves to secure the win. On Sunday, Gustavus bounced back from a 4-1 loss against NCAA Tournament-bound St. Scholastica a season ago. Bateman made four saves in the 1-0 blanking of the Saints.  

Bateman picks up his sixth and seventh career shutouts along with his second career MIAC Athlete of the Week honor. Gustavus is set for three games ahead this week, starting with a matchup at Martin Luther College tomorrow at 5 p.m. prior to hosting Luther College and Wartburg College this weekend.
