Nelson Finne Takes Eighth In MIAC Track & Field Decathlon

Gustavus men’s multi-specialist Nelson Finne (So., Elgin, Minn.) captured one point for the Gusties Friday at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Decathlon. Finne took eighth place in the decathlon with a total of 5,345 points. Of the 10 events, Finne set seven personal records. Derek Huntley (Sr., Maplewood, Minn.) also competed in the decathlon on took 12th with 4,614 points.

Women’s Tennis Advances To MIAC Championship, Defeats St. Thomas 5-1

The Gustavus women’s tennis team earned a trip the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a 5-1 victory over the University of St. Thomas Friday. The Gusties claimed two of three doubles matches and then won the first three singles to secure the victory. Gustavus improves to 18-7 overall, while the Tommies fall to 15-3.

Baseball Hosts St. Thomas In Season Finale, Senior Day, Saturday

The Gustavus baseball team is set for its season finale Saturday at home against St. Thomas. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. at the Gustie Baseball Field. The Gusties enter the matchup 20-16 overall and 8-10 in the MIAC, while the Tommies are 23-12 overall and 15-3 in the league. The doubleheader is designated as Senior Day as 11 Gustie seniors will be honored.

Men’s Tennis Advances To MIAC Playoff Championship

The No. 21-ranked Gustavus men’s tennis team swept Bethel University 9-0 Thursday afternoon at Swanson Tennis Center in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff semifinal matchup.

Josh Chatfield Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Baseball Team

The 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Baseball Teams were released Thursday and Gustavus senior Josh Chatfield (Apple Valley, Minn.) was named to the 11-member District 6 Team, which features student-athletes from Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Five Gusties Named MIAC Men’s Tennis All-Conference

Five members of the Gustavus men's tennis team were named to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams, announced Thursday by the MIAC office. Mohanad Alhouni (Jr., Tripoli, Libya) and Chase Johnson (So., Golden Valley, Minn.) were named to both the singles and doubles team, Zach Ekstein (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) was named to the singles squad while Tommy Entwistle (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Patrick Whaling (So., Manikob Sabot, Va.) earned a spot on the doubles team.

Five Gusties Named Women’s Tennis All-Conference, Carlson Earns Chris Evert Award

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its women’s tennis postseason awards Thursday and five Gusties were recognized as All-Conference members. Cal Carlson (Sr., St. Peter, Minn.) highlighted the awards as she was honored with the Chris Evert Award, which annually recognizes a senior tennis student-athlete with outstanding sportsmanship and exemplary athletic, academic and humanitarian accomplishments.

Track & Field Competes At MSU-Mankato Twilight Meet

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams Wednesday competed in the annual Minnesota State University-Mankato Twilight Meet, making preparations for the conference meet next week. The Gusties posted a number of quality performances, which are listed below. Other teams competing in the meet included Augustana, Martin Luther, MSU-Mankato, Sioux Falls, South Dakota State, and Southwest Minnesota State.

Baseball Uses Five-Run Ninth To Salvage Split At Augsburg

The Gustavus baseball team salvaged a split Wednesday against Augsburg in its final road test of the season, dropping the first game 5-0 before claiming game two 6-1 at Parade Stadium. The split moves the Gusties to 20-16 overall and 8-10 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Auggies move to 18-20 overall and 6-12 in the league.
