ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus baseball team is set to host Martin Luther College today in a non-conference doubleheader at the Gustie Baseball Field. The twin bill starts at 2:30 p.m. Gustavus enters with a 14-8 overall record and 4-2 mark in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while Martin Luther is 4-12 overall and 0-4 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
Last time out: The Gusties erupted for 16 runs in a decisive 12-run game one decision last Saturday over Hamline, but settled for a split after dropping the second game 8-3. Danny Carlson went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs, five RBI, a double, and a stolen base in game one. Connor Kern improved his record to 3-0 after tossing the first five innings. He allowed four runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and zero walks. In game two, Adam Stockwell suffered the loss after five innings. He allowed three runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Brock Peterson (2-3, BB) and Matt Berkner (2-4, R, 2B) led the Gusties at the plate.
Nearing 400 helpers: Danny Carlson has recorded 61 assists this season at shortstop and now has 390 career assists. With 10 more, he would become just the second Gustavus baseball player to reach the 400-assist mark. Mike DesLauriers (2006-09) is the only Gustie to reach the mark with a program record 415 career assists.
