Jena Willis homered in game one and pitched a complete game in game two on Friday.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Gustavus softball team earned a non-conference doubleheader sweep Friday, defeating Simpson College 3-2 and Plattsburgh State 7-6, improving to 9-1 on the season.

In game one, the Gusties came back from a one-run deficit and picked up two home runs to prevail in the defensive effort. Hannah Heacox (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.) earned the start on the rubber and finished her fourth complete game and win of the season, allowing just two runs and three Simpson hits, along with nine strikeouts.

Simpson took a 1-0 lead in the second inning prior to a Gustie push back in the third, tallying two runs.

Kim Kurtzweg (Jr., Arlington, Minn.) led off the third inning with a single, followed by a Heacox home run to left field, her first of the season as Gustavus claimed a 2-1 lead.

Jena Willis (Sr., Kalispell, Mt.) pushed the Gustie lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning with a homer down the left field line, her first of the season.

Simpson scored a run off two hits in the sixth inning to cut the Gustavus lead to one, but were unable to push across another as the Black and Gold claimed the 3-2 victory.

Jena Willis went seven innings in the circle, tallying her third complete game of the season and moving her record to 5-0.

The Gusties picked up three runs in the second and four in the fourth. The fourth inning proved to be the factor, led by a three-run homer Kurtzweg, the first of her career.

Gustavus has another doubleheader in store Saturday, facing Ramapo and 9 a.m. and Rowan at 1:30 p.m.
