Gymnastics Participates In Best Of Minnesota Meet Saturday
The Gustavus gymnastics team has its final tune-up before next week's WIAC Championships/NCGA Regional as it participates in the Best of Minnesota meet Saturday, hosted by the University of Minnesota. The meet begins at 4 p.m. and is held at the Sports Pavilion. Participating teams include Gustavus, Hamline, University of Minnesota, and Winona State.
Season Preview: Softball Begins 2016 Campaign Sunday In Rochester
One year removed from its first ever MIAC playoff championship, the Gustavus softball team is eager to get back to the diamond with healthy mix of returning veterans and incoming first-years. The Gusties kick off their 2016 campaign Sunday with a non-conference doubleheader at the Rochester Regional Bubble against UW-Stevens Point (2:30 p.m.) and UW-River Falls (7 p.m.).
Women’s Basketball Concludes Season With Hard Fought 78-70 Loss To Saint Mary’s
The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team saw its 2015-16 season come to a close on Thursday, as it fell to No. 2 seed Saint Mary’s University in the MIAC Playoff Semifinals by a final score of 78-70. It was a game of runs that featured six ties and close play throughout, but the Cardinals were able to pull away down the stretch to advance to Saturday’s final. The Gusties finish their season with an overall record of 20-7.
Men’s And Women’s Track & Field Set To Compete At Macalester Kilt Classic Friday
The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams have one final tune-up before next week’s MIAC Indoor Championships as they travel to St. Paul Friday to compete at Macalester’s Kilt Classic. Participating teams include Augsburg, Bethel, Gustavus, Hamline, Macalester and St. Catherine.
Eder-Zdechlik, Power Named To Women’s Hockey All-Conference Team
Gustavus Adolphus College women's hockey players Allison Eder-Zdechlik (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.) and Erica Power (So., Lakeville, Minn.) were honored by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in its postseason awards that were released Thursday. In addition, first-year Erin Moes (Hastings, Minn.) garnered MIAC All-Rookie honors.
Women’s Basketball Continues Postseason Run With MIAC Semifinal Matchup At Saint Mary’s On Thursday
After earning its first playoff win since 2012 on Tuesday evening, the Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball continues its postseason run with an MIAC Playoff Semifinal matchup against Saint Mary’s University on Thursday evening in Winona, Minn. The game will be the second in three days for the Gusties after their quarterfinal win against the College of Saint Benedict on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Saint Mary’s has been off from competition since Saturday, as it earned a first-round bye thanks to its No. 2 seed in the conference playoffs.
Zach Ekstein Earns Men’s Tennis Athlete Of The Week Honors
The Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team came up with another decisive win in MIAC play Saturday to continue its perfect start to the 2016 season. Sophomore Zach Ekstein (Eagan, Minn.) turned in a near-perfect performance with wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles to lead the Gusties to an 8-1 conference win over St. Thomas. For his performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Ekstein Tuesday with the MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week award.
Women’s Basketball Earns First Playoff Win Since 2012 With 65-40 Victory Over Saint Benedict In MIAC Quarterfinals
Playing in its first home playoff game since the 2011-12 season, the Gustavus Adolphus College women's basketball team put on a show for its home crowd, taking control from the start and eventually finishing with a 25-point, 65-40 victory over No. 6 seed College of Saint Benedict on Tuesday evening at Gus Young Court in the MIAC Playoff Quarterfinals. With the win, the No. 3 seeded Gusties advance to Thursday's semifinal round in Winona, Minn. against No. 2 seed Saint Mary's University.
Women’s Basketball Hosts MIAC Playoff Quarterfinal Matchup With Saint Benedict On Tuesday
The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team opens MIAC Playoff action on Tuesday, Feb. 23 with a matchup against the College of Saint Benedict at Gus Young Court, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. After going 14-4 in the MIAC during the regular season, Gustavus earned the No. 3 seed and the right to host its first playoff game since the 2011-12 season. Saint Benedict clinched the No. 6 seed after defeating Augsburg this past Saturday to finish 10-8 in the league.
