Men’s Tennis Falls To No. 5 Chicago 7-2
The Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to No. 5 University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon at West Bend High School. The loss drops the Gusties to 19-7 overall, including a 3-6 mark against nationally-ranked foes.
Heartbreak In Collegeville, Baseball Swept By Saint John’s
The Gustavus baseball team put up a good effort Saturday in game one against Saint John’s, but lost 7-6 in extra innings before falling by a convincing score of 16-3 in the nightcap. With the sweep, the Gusties fall to 9-13 overall and 2-6 in the MIAC, while the Johnnies improve to 18-8 overall and 6-3 in the league.
Women’s Tennis Downs St. Olaf 8-1
The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s tennis team earned an 8-1 victory over St. Olaf College on Saturday afternoon at the Carlson Outdoor Courts. With the win, the Gusties move to 15-6 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC, and are one of three remaining undefeated conference teams, along with Carleton and St. Thomas.
Tennis Teams Take Court For Another Competitive Weekend
The Gustavus Adolphus College tennis teams are both back in action this weekend with multiple competitive matches and plenty at stake. The men's team heads to the Milwaukee area for matches against fellow nationally-ranked foes No. 5 University of Chicago on Saturday and No. 37 Kalamazoo College on Sunday. Meanwhile, the women's squad takes on St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. on Saturday, and returns home Sunday to face defending MIAC Playoff Champion and conference rival University of St. Thomas.
Golf Teams Back In Action This Weekend, Men Host Bobby Krig Invite
The Gustavus Adolphus College men's and women's golf teams are each back in action this weekend, one week removed from competition in the Augsburg Invite. The women travel to Coon Rapids, Minnesota for the Minnesota State University, Mankato Invite that will be played at Bunker Hills Country Club, while the men host the Bobby Krig Invite, with Sunday's first round to be played at The Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn. and Monday's final round at Le Sueur Country Club in Le Sueur, Minn.
Softball Sweeps Macalester In Walk-Off Fashion
The Gustavus softball team on Thursday swept Macalester 4-2 and 8-7 in extra innings to improve to 16-8 overall and 7-3 in the MIAC, while the Scots drop to 9-17 overall and 2-6 in the league.
Track & Field Hosts Lee Krough Invitational On Saturday
The Gustavus men's and women's track & field teams are set to host the Lee Krough Invitational on Saturday. Field events begin at 9 a.m. and track events begin at 12:15 p.m. Teams participating include Gustavus, Concordia, Saint Benedict, Saint Mary's, Bethany Lutheran, Crown, Martin Luther, Luther, University of Minnesota-Morris, Minnesota State University-Mankato, St. Scholastica, Winona State, and Waldorf.
Brandt, Swenson Earn MIAC Golfer of the Week Honors
Gustavus Adolphus College golfers Andrew Brandt (Sr., Medina, Minn.) and McKenzie Swenson (So., Buffalo, Minn.) have earned MIAC Golfer of the Week honors as voted on by the MIAC Sports Information Directors.
Heacox Throws No-Hitter, Softball Splits With Augsburg
The Gustavus softball team hosted its home opener Wednesday and came away with a split against Augsburg. Hannah Heacox (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) threw a no-hitter in a five-inning 8-0 victory, but the Gusties dropped the nightcap 3-0. Gustavus moves to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC, while the Auggies move to 15-11 overall and 4-4 in the league.
Softball Splits Makeup Series With Hamline
The Gustavus Adolphus College softball team split an MIAC doubleheader with Hamline on Tuesday afternoon at Meredith Field. The Gusties fell in game one 8-4, but bounced back with a strong 7-0 shutout of the Pipers in game two, handing Hamline its first conference loss of the season. With the split, Gustavus is now 13-7 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC, while the Pipers move to 12-8 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
