The Gusties open their 2016 campaign tomorrow at the Elmhurst Tournament where they’ll play four games in two days.

2016 Men’s Soccer Preview

The Gustavus men’s soccer team kicks off its 2016 campaign tonight at Wartburg and the anticipation for playing a competitive schedule is running high for a relatively young Gustie squad. This season’s team features two seniors in Patrick Roth (Stillwater, Minn.) and Henry Brose (Hudson, Wis.), along with five juniors, 11 sophomores, and 11 freshmen. Although the bulk of the 2016 Gusties are underclassmen, eighth-year head coach Mike Middleton doesn’t feel there is a lack of skill on the team.

The 2016 Gustavus football campaign marks a monumental milestone in the program’s history as the Gusties celebrate their 100th season of football. This season’s offense will create a new identity with the loss of record-setting quarterback Mitch Hendricks and All-American receiver Matthew Boyce, while the defense is restructured to cater to its strengths. After three consecutive winnings seasons, expectations are high for the Gusties in 2016.

Gustavus Adolphus College has a rich history of athletic accomplishments. Gustie teams have gone on to win 250 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) championships as a charter member of the league and have enjoyed success on the national stage as well. The triumphs on the playing field are certainly attributed to the physical abilities of the student-athletes, but what sets Gustavus apart from many other institutions is the hard work put in the classroom by its student-athletes.

Monday, October 3 - Memorial Service at Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, Minn. Visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m., and lunch following at noon at Elim Lutheran Church.
