The Gustavus men’s soccer team generated a number of scoring chances late in the game Sunday against Knox College, but was unable to net the equalizer as the visitors walked away with a 1-0 victory. The loss drops the Gusties to 0-3 overall, while Knox moves to 2-0 and is named the Gustavus Classic champion.

The Gustavus men's and women's cross country teams both placed second at the Crown Invite on the campus of Crown College Saturday. Thomas Knobbe (Sr., Decorah, Iowa) led the Gusties, turning in a time of 26:46.4 to place second individually.

The Gustavus men’s golf team sits in third place after day one at the Transylvania Fall Invitational, played at the University Club of Kentucky. The Gusties shot a 597, 21-over par Saturday, which is 15 strokes behind the leader, Greensboro. Wittenberg is two stroke behind in second.

The Gustavus men’s soccer team’s home opener Saturday was spoiled by St. Schoalstica as the visitors won by a score of 4-1. The loss moves the Gusties to 0-2 overall, while the Saints improve to 1-1 overall.

Football Kicks Off 100th Season With Decisive 35-6 Win At Westminster

The Gustavus football team started its 100th season on the right foot, defeating Westminster College 35-6 on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties scored touchdowns on their first two possessions and never looked back. Gustavus accumulated 479 yards of offense on 275 passing and 204 rushing. Luke Martinez (Sr., Lenexa, Kan.) had a breakout game after missing all last season due to injury as he scored three touchdowns with 129 yards on 21 carries. In his first start under center, Michael Veldman (So., Becker, Minn.) was extremely efficient, completing 21-of-25 passes for 266 yards and a touchdown. Velman also added an six-yard rushing touchdown. Jordan Kahlow (So., Le Sueur, Minn.) led the defense with six tackles.

Gustavus Women's Soccer defeated the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 1-0 in their home opener Saturday afternoon at the Gustie Soccer Field.

Volleyball Splits Day One At Elmhurst Tournament Against Ranked Opponents

The Gustavus volleyball team kicked off its 2016 season Friday at the Elmhurst Tournament and split the first two games. The Gusties dropped a five-set heartbreaker to No. 18-ranked Elmhurst in game one, which ended 18-16 in the final set, and then bounced back with a five-set victory over No. 14 UW-Whitewater.
