2016 Gustavus Athletics Year In Review
2016 was another year filled with conference championships, national tournament appearances and spectacular individual performances both on and off the field of play for Gustavus athletics. Here’s a look back at numerous highlight events that occurred throughout the year.
Women’s Basketball Escapes With 60-56 Win At UW-River Falls
The Gustavus women’s basketball team continued its impressive start to the 2016-17 campaign with its 11th consecutive win Thursday against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The 60-56 win over the Falcons moves the Gusties to 11-0, which is the second best start to a season in program history.
Men’s Hoops Downed 77-62 By Ramapo
The Gustavus men’s basketball team concluded play at the D3hoops.com Classic on Thursday, losing 77-62 to Ramapo College. The loss moves the Gusties to 2-7 overall, while the Roadrunners remain perfect at 11-0.
Men’s Basketball Drops 78-57 Decision To No. 11 UW-Eau Claire
The Gustavus men’s basketball team opened the D3hoops.com Classic Wednesday with a 78-57 loss to No. 11 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The defeat drops the Gusties to 2-6 overall, while the Blugolds improve to 9-1.
Viva Las Vegas: Men’s Basketball Set To Compete At D3hoops.com Classic
After a two-week break for the holidays, the Gustavus men’s basketball team is soaking up the sun in Las Vegas, Nev. where it is set to compete in two games at the D3hoops.com Classic at the South Point Arena. The Gusties enter the Classic with a 2-5 overall record, most recently losing 76-67 to North Central on Dec. 13. UW-Eau Claire, which is ranked No. 11 in the nation according to the Dec. 18 D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, enters today's game with an 8-1 overall record after most recently losing 103-90 to Wartburg on Dec. 11. Ramapo is off to its best start in program history with a perfect 9-0 mark, most recently defeating Farmingdale State 88-73 on Dec. 15.
Women’s Basketball Moves To 10-0 With Win At UW-Stout
The Gustavus women's basketball team used a 42.3 percent shooting mark from the field and a season-high 21 free throws made to earn its 10th win of the season at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Tuesday evening.
Men’s Basketball Loses 76-67 To North Central
The Gustavus men’s basketball team dropped a 76-67 decision to North Central University in non-conference action Tuesday. The loss moves the Gusties to 2-5 overall, while the Rams improve to 3-5 after the first ever meeting between the two programs.
Women’s Hoops Travels To UW-Stout
The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team is set for a non-conference matchup tonight, traveling to Menomonie, Wis. to face the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The 9-0 Gusties are set to tip off against the 3-5 Blue Devils at 7 p.m.
Men’s Basketball Hosts North Central Tuesday In Last Home Game Of 2016
After four straight games played against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents, the Gustavus men’s basketball team is set to host North Central University in non-conference action at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Gusties enter the contest with a 2-4 overall record, while the Rams of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and National Christian College Athletic Association are 2-5 overall. Gustavus most recently lost 75-73 at Saint Mary’s on Saturday, while North Central lost 83-72 to Northwestern-St. Paul on Saturday.
Gustavus Athletics Raffle Ticket Winners Announced
The Gustavus Athletics Department conducted its winter raffle Saturday and the winners have been drawn. Thanks to all the Gustie family, friends, parents, and alums who participated in the raffle – Gustavus Athletics appreciates the support. Winners will receive their Visa gift card in the postal mail, which will be sent out this week.
