Casey Decker Named MIAC Football Special Teams Athlete Of The Week

Casey Decker had a productive day punting the ball against the No. 4-ranked Tommies. Decker had six punts for 235 yards, averaging 39.2 yards per punt. He also landed a season-long 57-yard punt inside the 20-yard line. Decker's punting was crucial in the field position game as he gave the Tommies a long field to work with after each kick. Two of his punts were not returned, while the other four were returned for an average of only 2.8 yards. This season, Decker has punted 39 times for a total of 1,396 yards, and his average of 35.8 yards per punt ranks third in the MIAC. He has five punts inside the 20, nine fair catches and two touchbacks.

Volleyball To Face Wartburg In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on Monday morning announced the 64-team field for its Division III Volleyball Championship and Gustavus (23-7) is selected to face Wartburg College (21-5) in the first round at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, hosted by the University of Northwestern-St. Paul.

Men’s Hockey Drops 2-1 Decision At UW-Stout

The Gustavus men’s hockey team suffered a 2-1 setback Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, dropping to 1-2-1 on the season.

Volleyball Claims Second Straight MIAC Playoff Championship, Advances To NCAA Tourney

For the second straight season, the Gustavus volleyball team is bound for the national tournament after claiming the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Championship, defeating Bethel University in four sets. The Gusties won by set scores of 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, advancing to NCAA Championships for the seventh time in program history.

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving squad competed in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Vic Gustafson Pool, falling by a score of 187-113 to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in their season opener.

Football Downed By No. 4 St. Thomas 40-6

In the final home game of the 2016 season, the Gustavus football team lost to No. 4-ranked University of St. Thomas 40-6. The Tommies outgained the Gusties 458-128 in total yards and limited the home team to two field goals. Gustavus had a significant advantage in time of possession at 35:46-24:14, but was unable to finish drives in the endzone. The Gusties fall to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Confernce, while the Tommies remain undefeated at 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the league.

Volleyball Hosts Bethel Tonight In MIAC Championship Rematch

After a thrilling comeback five-set victory over St. Thomas in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Semifinals Thursday, the Gustavus volleyball team is set to host Bethel University tonight in a rematch of last season’s MIAC Championship game. The Gusties enter the match with a 22-7 overall record, while the Royals are 19-10 after upsetting top seed Augsburg in four sets.

Football Hosts No. 4 St. Thomas On Senior Day Today

The Gustavus Adolphus College football team is set to host the University of St. Thomas on its annual Senior Day Saturday. The Gusties come into Saturday’s Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup with a 4-4 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the league after a 23-3 win at St. Olaf last Saturday, while the No. 4-ranked Tommies are 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference after a 27-6 victory at Bethel last week.
