Women’s Swimming & Diving Takes Runner-Up Finish At Race For Grace

The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving squad tallied 797 total team points to earn a second place finish of six teams at the 2016 Grace Goblirsch Invitational Saturday at Vic Gustafson Pool.

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving squad tallied 797 total team points to earn a second place finish of seven teams at the 2016 Grace Goblirsch Invitational Saturday at Vic Gustafson Pool.

In 18 total events, the Gustie women owned six runner-up finishes. Minnesota State University Moorhead compiled 1,696 total team points to earn first place.

Hayley Booher (Sr., Warren, Vt.) earned second place finishes in the 100-yard, 200-yard backstroke and the individual medley. Her time of 1:02.38 was good for a second place finish in the 100-yard and the time of 2:14.94 was good for second place of 18 competitors in the backstroke. A time of 2:15.42 was also good for a second place finish of 20 participants in the 200 individual medley.

Kennedy Holwerda (Jr., Willmar, Minn.) had her best finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, racing to a second place finish of 13 competitors with a time of 2:37.46. Holwerda also earned a third place finish of 34 in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.76.

In the 400-yard individual medley, Linnea Rizzo (So., Woodbury, Minn.) was the runner-up of 17 competitors with a time of 4:50.85. Maggie Webster (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) rounded out the individual runner-up finishes as she was second of 45 participants with a time of 55.65 in the 100-yard freestyle.

The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Booher, Webster, Nicole Lohman (Sr., North Mankato, Minn.) and Haley Pesik (So., Eagan, Minn.) were also second place finishers with a total time of 1:42.83.

The Gusties return to action Dec. 2-3 as they travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete in the Jean Freeman Invitational.
