ETTRICK, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s cross country team recorded a 14th place finish out of 22 teams at the Tori Neubauer Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Saturday morning at Ettrick Golf Club.
The Gusties totaled 393 team points while Sadie Novak-Klug (Jr., Waseca, Minn.) led the Black and Gold, recording her career-best 6k finish with a time of 23:46.81, good for 37th place out of 335 competitors.
“She (Novak-Klug) ran really tough,” said Head Coach Dale Bahr. “Sadie has started to become a more complete runner. Her training and volume has been pretty solid this year and she’s becoming a mentally stronger runner. She is definitely a physical leader and she shows the team what it means to work hard and get down to business.”
Sarah Anderson (Fy., Roseville, Minn.) also registered career-best 6k time with a mark of 25:07.32.
“Our first-year’s are really showing some experience now and they’re starting to come through,” Bahr commented. “We just have to keep building confidence with the ladies team. They are starting to gel and believe in each other and it is really neat how we are having individuals step up when they see others falling back.”
Next up the Golden Gusties prepare for the MIAC Championships, held at Como Park in St. Paul, Minn. two weeks from today.
