Women’s Soccer Hosts College Of Saint Benedict

The Gustavus women’s soccer team continues Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Tuesday afternoon with a matchup against the College of Saint Benedict.

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team continues Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Tuesday afternoon with a matchup against the College of Saint Benedict.

The 5-4-2 (2-4 MIAC) Gusties host the 7-3-2 (3-2-1 MIAC) Blazers at 4 p.m. at Gustie Soccer Field.

Gustavus is coming off its second consecutive shutout loss, most recently a 2-0 loss at Augsburg College on Saturday. The Gusties were unable to generate a strong attack as they only recorded two shots on goal and 10 shots total. Coursey Edwards (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Emily Skogseth (So., Burnsville, Minn.) each registered one shot on goal.

The Auggies’ top scorer, Ashley St. Aubin put in a rebound goal after a shot from Ciara Gregory to record her 10th goal of the season at the 26th minute of the first period, which proved to be the game-winner. St. Aubin also led the Auggies with six shots, four being on net. Around halfway through the second period, Ciara Gregory posted her second assist of the game after feeding Carter Denison who added an insurance goal to give Augsburg a 2-0 lead, in which Gustavus was unable to answer.

Augsburg outshot the Gusties 18-10, 10-2 shots on target. Gustavus and Augsburg each tallied four corner kicks. Goalkeeper Ashley Becker (So., Farmington, Minn.) made eight saves as she suffered her fourth loss of the season.

Tuesday’s game marks the 35th meeting between Gustavus and Saint Benedict. The Gusties own a 16-15-3 all-time record over Saint Benedict. Last season, the Gusties defeated the Blazers 1-0 in St. Joseph, Minn.

Saint Benedict most recently fell to Bethel University on Saturday by a score of 2-3. Senior forward Taylor Ledin leads the Blazers and ranks among the top of the MIAC in scoring, as she has recorded nine goals and six assists for 24 points on the season. Senior goalkeeper Heather Kaluzniak is second in the MIAC with 60 saves. As a team, the Blazers rank fifth in the MIAC with 23 total goals.
