ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team travels to Minneapolis, Minn. Friday to take on Augsburg College.
The 8-2 (3-1 MIAC) Auggies host the 5-3-2 (2-3 MIAC) Gusties at 7 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
The Gusties look to bounce back after a 0-3 loss against Carleton College last weekend. Gustavus suffered its third loss of the season during homecoming. Carleton recorded its first victory of the season, moving to 1-8-2 (1-3-1 MIAC).
An even first half left both squads scoreless. Carleton led Gustavus in shots (4-2) and corner kicks (3-0) in the first period. The Gusties came back strong in the second period as they outshot the Knights 6-4, but couldn’t put one past Carleton goalkeeper Elaine Sundberg, who made four saves and posted her second shutout of the season.
Friday’s game marks the 32nd meeting between Gustavus and Augsburg. The Gusties own a 17-12-2 all-time record over Augsburg. Last season, the Gusties defeated the Auggies 2-1 at Gustie Soccer Field.
Augsburg was riding an eight-game winning streak before falling to Bethel University last Saturday, 0-1. The Auggies are tied with Bethel for the lead in the conference with 30 goals on the season, and own the lead with 93 points. Goalkeepers Emily Chapman and Marissa Guillou have stood tall sharing time in goal. They have combined to allow just three goals on the season. First-year Ashley St. Aubin is tied for the lead in the MIAC with nine goals.
Augsburg most recently lost 2-0 against Bethel University on Wednesday. Goalkeeper Elaine Sundberg is the MIAC leader in saves with 58 and minutes played with 940:00. First-year Ashley St. Aubin is tied for the lead in the MIAC with nine goals on the season.
