On Tuesday, The Gusties opened MIAC play with a 2-0 victory over Macalester College, moving to 4-0-1 overall (1-0 MIAC).

With another shutout against Macalester, Gustavus has yet to allow a goal through five games. The Gusties got on the board at the 34th minute of the first period. Jana Elliott (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) squeezed the ball through the Macalester defenders, giving Paula Miller (Jr., Rapid City, S.D.) a partial breakaway as she put home her second goal of the season. Late in the second period, Emily Skogseth (So., Burnsville, Minn.) made some nice moves to get past Macalester defenders and centered the ball to Grace Brustad (So., Edina, Minn.), who put in her first collegiate goal. Gustavus led Macalester in shots (11-10) and shots on goal (6-5)

Gustavus owns a 22-15-4 all-time record over St. Olaf. Last season, the Gusties shutout the Oles 1-0 September 19 at Gustie Soccer Field.

The Oles have an overall record of 3-2-0 (0-1 MIAC) and are coming off a 1-3 loss in their MIAC opener at Bethel University. Mackenzie Schoustra has carried the Oles as the teams’ leading scorer with three goals on the season including two game-winners. Julie Johnson has started four games in goal and has posted 18 saves and a 1.21 goals against average.
