EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus men’s golf team shot a 303 (+15) in the first round of the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invite Sunday, which has the Gusties sitting in second place behind the host UW-Eau Claire with a 296.

“We got off to a shaky start, then we got it going for the middle stretch and then gave some back the last few holes with some loose shots and some miss-hit putts,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “I like our chances going into tomorrow, this group can throw together some really good numbers when we get it rolling. We need to get off to a good start tomorrow on a great Eau Claire Country Club, and it will make for a great day.”

Chris Captain (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) and Max Savini (So., Ramsey, Minn.) led the Gusties with rounds of 74, which is tied for fourth place out of 96 golfers. Ben Hauge (Fy., Ramsey, Minn.) shot a 75, followed by Sam Majka (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) at 80 and Alec Aunan (Jr., Rock Island, Ill.) at 82.

The two-day tournament concludes tomorrow at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club.
