MANKATO, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College indoor track and field teams competed in the Ted Nelson Classic held Saturday at Meyers Field House located on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato. Against a field comprised of both NCAA Division II and III institutions, four Gusties posted top-five performances.
Leading the way for the Black and Gold was Thomas Knobbe (Jr., Decorah, Iowa) and Sarah Swanson (Sr., Fairbanks, Alaska). Knobbe registered a time of 4:20.76 in the mile run, good for third place, while Swanson was third place in the shot put with a toss of 12.32 meters.
Also recording top-five finishes were Sam Fischer (Sr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) and Emett Haberman (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.). Fischer was fourth place in the weight throw with a toss of 17.15 meter, which is ranked 12th in the nation, while Haberman came in fifth in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:58.69.
Other notable Gustie men finishers included Ed ReMine (Jr., Mantorville, Minn.) who took sixth in the 400 meter dash with a 51.21, Alex Fredrickson (Jr., Victoria, Minn.) with a seventh place finish in the 800 meter run in 1:58.19, and Paul Nordquist (Sr., Edina, Minn.) in the 3,000 meter run in 8:46.80.
On the women’s side, Lydia Hayes (So., Decorah, Iowa) took ninth place finish in the 1,000 meter run in 3:24.13 and Lauren Shurson (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn.) took seventh in the 3,000 meter run in 10:59.79.
The Gustie 4×400 relay team of ReMine, Fredrickson, Sam ReMine (Jr., Mantorville, Minn.), and David Anderson (Jr., St. Michael, Minn.) also took a top-10 finish, coming in sixth place with a time of 3:28.49.
The Gusties compete next on Saturday, Feb. 13 when they travel to Northfield to compete in the Carleton Meet of Hearts.
