Women’s Hockey Ranked In Top 10 Of Two Preseason Polls

SAINT PETER, Minn. – After earning the regular season Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championship last season and posting an overall record of 19-5-2, the Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team earned the No. 8 ranking in the USCHO.com preseason poll and No. 9 ranking in the D3hockey.com preseason poll.

The Gusties earned the No. 1 seed in the MIAC Playoffs in 2014-15, but were upset by Bethel University in the semifinals by a final score of 6-3. Despite its early exit from the conference playoffs, Gustavus is one of just two MIAC teams to be ranked in the USCHO.com poll and the only MIAC team ranked in the D3hockey.com poll. Ranked No. 7, the University of St. Thomas is the other conference squad ranked in the USCHO.com poll.

Plattsburgh State University sits atop both polls after defeating Elmira College 3-2 in last season’s national championship game. Plattsburgh received 14-of-15 first place votes in the USCHO.com poll and was a unanimous decision in the D3hockey.com poll.

The Gusties will open the 2015-16 season this coming Tuesday when they travel to Superior, Wisconsin for a non-conference matchup with UW-Superior. Tuesday’s face-off is set for 7 p.m at Siinto S. Wessman Arena.
