Volleyball Hosts 2015 Gustavus Quadrangular On Saturday

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team is set to host the 2015 Gustavus Volleyball Quadrangular on Saturday with four teams competing in four matches. The schedule is as follows:

11 a.m. – Concordia College vs. University of Wisconsin-Stout

1 p.m. – Gustavus Adolphus vs. University of Wisconsin-Stout

3 p.m. – Concordia College vs. Luther College

5 p.m. – Gustavus Adolphus vs. Luther College

Gustavus (7-2) enters Saturday’s quadrangular on a seven-match win streak, most recently defeating Bethel 3-1 on Wednesday in Arden Hills, Minn. to begin MIAC play 1-0. The Gusties won by set scores of 28-26, 27-25, 15-25 and 25-15 for their first win against Bethel since 2008, ending a seven-match losing streak against the Royals.

Taylor Trautman (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) proved to be a threat on both sides of the ball, recording her first career double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Trautman led the team with 30 total attacks and had five errors for an attack percentage of .167.

Alyssa Taylor (Sr., Trimont, Minn.) and Lauren Hanson (Fy., Redwood Falls, Minn.) also recorded double digit kills with 10 each. Brittany Luethmers (Fy., Prior Lake, Minn.) and Becca Woodstra (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.) held their own on the back line with 19 and 13 digs, respectively. Marisa Morgan (So., Rockford, Ill.) handled the bulk of the setting duties with a team-high 35 assists.

Concordia (6-2) also started MIAC play Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Macalester College in Moorhead, Minn. The Cobbers won by set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 17-25 and 25-18.

Heather Beaner (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) posted a career-high seven total blocks in the four-set match. Beaner averages 1.0 blocks per set, which ranks third in the MIAC. Olivia Wangensteen (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) and Anna Skow-Anderson (Sr., Pelican Rapids, Minn.) led the Cobbers with 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Mandy Mercil (Jr., Dilworth, Minn.) and Jena Klaphake (Jr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) contributed 21 assists apiece.

Luther (6-4) enters tomorrow’s quadrangular on a five-match win streak, most recently beating Loras College in straight sets Wednesday in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse won by set scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-22. The Norse tallied a .214 attack percentage, while holding Loras to an attack percentage of .144.

Lexie Erickson (Jr., Jordan, Minn.) led all attackers with a match-high 11 kills. Erickson posted an attack percentage of .474 with only two attack errors in the entire match. Brandi Knupp (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) and Anna Larson (Fy., Edina, Minn.) were next with seven kills each and Emma Veum (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) added six. Lindsey Ryan (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) dished out 27 assists and Taylor Gaide (So., Pueblo, Colo.) led the back row with 15 digs.

UW-Stout (8-4) dropped a heart breaker 3-2 to Northwestern on Wednesday in Menomonie, Wis. The Blue Devils held a 2-0 lead after two sets, but Northwestern came back to take the final three sets to hand UW-Stout a 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 17-25 and 12-15 loss.

The Blue Devils got 15 kills from Ashley Pratt (So., Lakeville, Minn.) and 12 from Kenney Stain (Fy., Elk River, Minn.). Emily Bialka (Fy., Cottage Grove, Minn.) finished with a career-best 47 assists, while libero Payton Schultz (Fy., Faribault, Minn.) tallied 41 digs.
