ST. PETER, Minn. – After successful races at the Falcon Invite last Friday in River Falls, Wisconsin, the Gustavus Adolphus cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday when they compete in the St. Olaf Invitational. The women’s race will begin at 10 a.m., while the men’s race will begin at 10:45 a.m.
Paul Nordquist (Sr., Edina, Minn.) led the Gustie men to their first meet championship since 2010 in River Falls, earning a personal-best time of 25:29.66 to finish in second place on the 8k course. Lauren Shurson (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn.) led the women to a second place finish, crossing the 6k finish line in 22:41.71, good for a fifth place finish.
At last season’s St. Olaf Invitational, the Gustavus men’s team placed eighth out of 16 teams, with Thomas Knobbe (Jr., Decorah, Iowa) being the top returning runner from that race, placing 20th with a time of time of 26:26. The women’s team placed sixth out of 16 teams, with Marit Sonnesyn (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) being the top returner. Sonnesyn placed 21st and finished the race in 23:42.
A total of 32 teams will compete on Saturday, including institutions from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota and Illinois.
