Le Sueur, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus football program welcomed more than 130 alumni, family and friends to its 25th Annual Golden Gustie Football Golf Tournament held Aug. 7 at the Le Sueur County Club.
“This is a huge day for a lot of reasons,” Head Coach Peter Haugen said. “It’s an opportunity to reconnect and reengage some relationships that these guys have. That’s the most important thing; to get people back together for at least one day a year.
“Secondly, its our biggest fundraiser. This really helps to support our program. This is an amazing fraternity of guys that have meant so much to the Gustavus football program.”
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to make sure the annual golf tournament runs smoothly, and Haugen is grateful for all the help.
“I’d like to thank Richard Olson for all the work he does with the hole sponsorships; Randy Stuckey and our advancement staff; and of course, Corey Shea, who does so much of the planning,” Haugen said. “We also have 37 hole sponsors and we are so thankful for each and every one of them.”
The Gustavus football team reports to campus Saturday, Aug. 15 for training camp. The Gusties open their 2015 campaign Sept. 5 at Crown College in a non-conference game. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
