BLOOMINGTON, MINN. – Gustavus Adolphus senior baseball player Garrett Fuchs (Cold Spring, Minn.) has been named to the 2015 MIAC All-Conference Baseball Team as a part of the league’s postseason awards that were announced Wednesday by the conference office.

In his senior campaign, Fuchs proved to be one of Gustavus’ top hitters, as he led the team in batting average (.396), hits (49), runs (28), stolen bases (12) and RBI (30). He also tied for the MIAC lead in triples with four. In addition, Fuchs tied for the team lead in doubles (8) and was second in total bases (65).

The Cold Spring native also proved to be a steady glove in center field for the Gusties, as he tallied a .988 fielding percentage to go along with just one error in 36 games played.

Bethel University headlined the conference awards, as it took home three-of-four top individual honors. The Royals’ Joe Zorn was named the Mike Augustin Pitcher-of-the-Year, Esteban Velasco was voted Rookie-of-the-Year and Bethel head coach Brian Raabe was selected as the Jim Dimick Coach-of-the-Year by his peers. Saint John’s University’s Kurt Jantscher rounded out the individual honors, as he was named the MIAC Max Molock Most Valuable Player.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the ninth-annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for baseball. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Representing Gustavus on this year’s squad was senior Max Fidler (Lino Lakes, Minn.).
