Caitlin Fermoyle And Elizabeth Weiers Lead Women’s Track & Field At Lee Krough Invite

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s track and field team turned in a total of nine individual event top three finishes at the 15th Annual Lee Krough Invitational held Saturday afternoon at the Gustavus Outdoor Track and Field Complex. No team scores were recorded.

To go along with wins in both the 4×100-meter relay (51.81) and 4×400-meter relay (4:20.71), Gustavus got gold medal performances from Caitlin Fermoyle (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Elizabeth Weiers (Sr., Le Center, Minn.). Fermoyle out-ran the field in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:25.04, and Weiers posted the winning toss of 163-feet five-inches in the hammer throw.

Rachel Colter (Sr., North St. Paul, Minn.) and Kaylee Maxon (Sr., New Richmond, Minn.) also added finishes on the podium in the throws. Colter placed second in the shot put with a throw of 39-feet 3.25-inches, and Maxon placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 136-feet nine-inches.

On the track, Courtney Branch (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) and Marit Sonnesyn (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) both finished runner-up in their respective race. Branch crossed the finish line in 5:09.30 in the 1,500-meter run, and Sonnesyn came in behind Fermoyle in 18:42.81 in the 5,000-meter run.

Rounding out Gustavus’s top performances with third place finishes was Kaitlin Bembenek (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.), Haley Kemper (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.), and Mata Agre (So., Medina, Minn.). Bembenek went 1:01.51 in the 400-meter dash, Kemper clocked a 1:12.44 in the 400-meter hurdles, and Agre posted a time of 12:12.51 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

The Gustavus Adolphus track and field team will be back in action on Saturday, April 18 when it travels to Northfield, Minnesota to take part in the Carleton Relays.
