Women’s Tennis Drops Two To Augustana, Nebraska-Kearney

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., OMAHA, NEB. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s tennis team was defeated by Augustana College and the University of Nebraska-Kearney this past Saturday and Sunday, both by 7-2 scores. The two losses move the Gusties to 3-8 on the season.

Against Augustana, Gustavus picked up a singles and doubles win apiece, getting wins from the pair of Lizzy Stanczyk (Jr., Plymouth, Wis.)/Michaela Schulz (So., Elk River, Minn.) at second doubles and from Schulz at second singles. Stanczyk played a close match with the Vikings’ Christine Olivo at third singles, but ended up falling 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.

Sunday, the Gusties headed west to Omaha to take on the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney. The Gustie duo of Schulz/Laurel Krebsbach (Sr., North Oaks, Minn.) nearly took home a win at first doubles, but ended up falling 9-8 (7-5). Ally Baker (Fy., Rosemount, Minn.)/Taylor Shortly (Fy., Lindstrom, Minn.) also almost picked up a doubles victory, but fell 9-7 at the third position. In singles, Schulz and Krebsbach picked up Gustavus’s two lone victories on the day, as Schulz defeated Kristin Weems 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 at the first spot, while Krebsbach beat Sthefani Rodriguez 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.

The Gusties will return home for a tripleheader this coming Saturday when they welcome Hamline, St. Kate’s and Morningside to the Swanson Tennis Center. Those matches will be at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
