Men’s Tennis Kicks Of Home Schedule With Wins Over Augustana And UW-Eau Claire

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s tennis team picked up its first two wins on Minnesota soil Saturday morning with non-conference victories over Augustana College (S.D.) and UW-Eau Claire at the Swanson Tennis Center. The Gusties kicked off the day with a 6-3 win over the Auggies and then followed up with a 9-0 sweep of the Blugolds. With today’s wins, Gustavus improves to 3-2.

In their 8:00 a.m. against Augustana, the Gusties got points from Colin Rieke (Sr., Rocheser, Minn.) and Zach Ekstein (Fr., Eagan, Minn.) at No. 2 doubles and Matt Baker (Sr., Rosemount, Minn.) and Matt Bettes (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) at No. 3 to take a 2-1 advantage into singles play. Tommy Entwistle (Fr., Sioux Falls, S.D.), David Hagberg (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.), Rieke, and Nick Reiners (Sr., Cambridge, Minn.) posted wins in the No. 2-through-5 singles positions, respectively, to bring the match to a final at 6-3.

An entirely different set of Gusties swept both doubles and singles en route to a 9-0 victory over the Blugolds to finish the day.

The Gustavus men’s tennis team will now gear up for the 2015 ITA National Indoor Championship set to place on Feb. 20-22 at the Swanson Tennis Center. The Gusties will kick off the weekend against top-seeded Trinity University (Texas) on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
