Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team currently sits in second place following the first day of the Augustana College Invitational at Bakker Crossing Golf Course.  Host Augustana will take a large lead into day two after tallying a 307 (+23) on the tournament’s first day. Gustavus sits behind Augustana with a 321 (+37), and Minnesota State, Mankato is five shots behind the Gusties in third place after shooting a 326 (+42).

McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) led the Gusties on day one by shooting a four-over-par 75 to come in second place. Teammates Chloe Altmann (Jr., Olivia, Minn.) and Mae Meierhenry (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) also finished the day inside the top 10 for Gustavus. Altmann totaled a 77 (+6) to finish in fourth, and Meierhenry shot a 78 (+9) to end up in a tie for ninth.

“Having seen the course, we want to improve from today and keep our positivity going into tomorrow,” said Swenson. “We want to continue playing as well as possible.”

“Our effort and attitude was great today,” added assistant coach Randy Stuckey. “Although we played well enough to finish in second, we need to hit more fairways and clean up our play on and around the greens tomorrow.”

Day two of the Augustana Invite will begin tomorrow morning with a 9 a.m. shotgun at Bakker Crossing.
