St. Peter, Minn. – After experiencing a tough opening to their 2014 schedule this past Friday and Saturday, the Gustavus Adolphus women’s soccer team will look to bounce back against a familiar midwestern opponent on Saturday when UW-La Crosse comes to St. Peter for a 3 p.m. match at the Gustie Soccer Field. Gustavus enters the weekend at 0-2-0, while UW-La Crosse is 1-0-1 after defeating Carroll University 2-1 on Aug. 29 in Waukesha, Wisconsin and playing Wartburg College to a 0-0 tie on Aug. 31 in La Crosse.
Saturday will mark the eighth overall meeting between Gustavus and UW-La Crosse in women’s soccer and the Gusties hold a 3-4 record against the Eagles. Gustavus fared well when it took on the Eagles in 2013, taking home a 1-0 victory thanks to Maddison Ackiss’s (Fairbanks, Alaska) game-wining goal in the 20th minute. Goalkeeper Caroline Olson (Sr., York, Penn.) stopped all seven shots she faced on the way to her first career shutout.
