St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s tennis team secured its 26th consecutive MIAC Championship with a 9-0 victory over the University of St. Thomas in the regular season finale on Sunday in the Swanson Tennis Center. With the win, Gustavus secures the No. 1 seed in the MIAC Playoffs and improves to 26-5 overall and 9-0 in the MIAC.
The MIAC Championship is the 47th for the Gustavus men’s tennis program since 1940 and the fifth for head coach Tommy Valentini since taking over the program in the 2009-10 season. Within their run of 26 straight league titles, the Gusties have won 242 consecutive MIAC matches.
Following the quarterfinal round of the MIAC Playoffs set to take place on Wednesday, April 30, the Gustavus men’s tennis team will host the lowest remaining seed in St. Peter on Friday, May 2 at 4:30 p.m. The semifinal winners will square off in the MIAC Playoff Championship on Sunday, May 4 at the home site of the highest remaining seed at 1:00 p.m. All matches will be hosted outdoors if weather permits. Should inclement weather occur, matches will be moved indoors within two hours of the originally scheduled start time.
