Women’s Tennis Aces Hamline 9-0

Name_Sheild_sportTRAJAN_2cSt. Paul, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s tennis team kept its strong start to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) portion of the schedule, defeating Hamline University 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.  The Gusties improved to 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC, while the Pipers drop to 6-13 overall and 1-7 in league play.

Gustavus opened the match with a clean sweep in the doubles competition, dropping a total of just four games in the three matches.  The Gusties captured an 8-0 win at first doubles, 8-1 at the second position, and 8-3 at third doubles to open the match with a 3-0 lead.

The Gustie women continued on to sweep the singles matches as well to capture the 9-0 win.  Each win came in straight sets, as no Piper singles player won more than three games.

Gustavus will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on St. Catherine University at the Baseline Center in Minneapolis, Minn.  Tomorrow’s match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
