Ithaca, N.Y. – The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team’s season is nearly complete following day one of the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships being held over the weekend at the Ben Light Gymnasium on the campus of Ithaca College. Gustavus’s two representatives in the meet, senior Jamie Ries (Monticello, Minn.) and first-year Lauren Kershner (Marine, Ill.), both took part in the all-around competition on Friday night. Kershner finished 12th with a score of 36.550, while Ries took 13th with a score of 36.150.
Kershner scored a 9.000 on the vault, 9.150 on the uneven parallel bars, 8.800 on the balance beam, and a 9.575 on the floor exercise. Her performance on the floor Friday night was the best of her rookie season.
Ries posted a 9.225 on the vault, 9.625 on the bars, 7.950 on the beam, and a 9.350 on the floor. The senior demolished her previous season-best score of 9.175 on the bars, earning a place in Saturday’s individual event competition by virtue of her score and finish.
Katie Fiorilli of UW-Whitewater was crowned the all-around champion with a score of 38.750.
