St. Peter, Minn. – For the third straight week, the Gustavus Adolphus women’s hockey team is ranked No. 5 in the most recent USCHO.com Division III Women’s Hockey Poll. The Gusties captured a sweep over Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) rival St. Olaf last weekend. Gustavus defeated the Oles by the final score of 5-2 on Friday night in St. Peter before completing the sweep with a 2-0 win on Saturday afternoon in Northfield. This week marks the 68th straight time the Gustie women have been ranked in the USCHO.com top ten.
This week’s top five teams all remained in tact with Plattsburgh State leading the way at No. 1. The Cardinals are followed by Middlebury at No. 2, Norwich at No. 3, and Elmira at No. 4 ahead of the Gusties. UW-River Falls was the only team to enter the poll after not being ranked last week. The Falcons captured a win and a tie with UW-Superior, who dropped two spots from No. 6 to No. 8 in this week’s poll. Gustavus remained the only team from the MIAC in the top ten.
The Gusties will be back in action this week when they take on UW-River Falls in a non-conference home-and-home series. The Gustie women will travel to River Falls, Wis., on Wednesday, Dec. 11th for a 7:00 p.m., match up with the Falcons before returning home for the second contest of the series on Friday, Dec. 13th at 7:00 p.m.
